USTA Jr. Team Tennis Western Regionals

Mendon Racquet and Pool Club in Pittsford was the site for the 2012 USTA Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) Western Regionals on Sunday, May 6.  The top teams from Winter JTT Leagues in Binghamton, Buffalo, and Ithaca took part in the event that included a 14 and under and an 18 and under Intermediate division.

Aces Wild, a team coached by Steve McGary that is based out of Elmira and Ithaca, won the 14 and under division.  They finished with a total of 57 points, while the team from Buffalo finished with 31 points.  Aces Wild swept all five courts in the second match to secure the overall victory.

There were four teams competing in the 18 and under division.  The top two teams both play in the Buffalo Niagara Community Tennis Association (BNCTA) JTT League.  Wayne’s World #1, a team from Miller Tennis Center that is captained by Wayne Martin, finished with 81 overall points, while the Blizzard took second place with 71 points.  May’s Team from Ithaca finished third, and Keller’s Killers from Binghamton took fourth.

Aces Wild and Wayne’s World #1 will move on to play in the USTA Jr. Team Tennis Sectionals scheduled for June 16-17 at Central Park in Schenectady.  The Region is proud to be represented by these two teams, and we wish them the best of luck at Sectionals.  The Region would also like to thank the staff from Mendon Racquet and Pool Club for their assistance in making the Regionals a success.
