RRTEA to Host QuickStart Tennis Events in Buffalo

April 9, 2009 02:30 PM

One way to beat those early spring flurries of snow is to think “Summer” and “Tennis.”

The River Rock Tennis and Education Association (RRTEA) will host two QuickStart Tennis events this summer at Riverside Park in Buffalo.

QuickStart Tennis is an innovative new play format designed for children under ten years of age that utilizes modified equipment, court dimensions, and scoring tailored to this age group. Smaller racquets, lower bouncing balls and smaller court sizes allow young children the opportunity to have fun while learning to play tennis.

The first event is a Recreational QuickStart Tennis Workshop to be held on Friday, May 29, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at Riverside Park. This 3-hour, interactive, on-court workshop provides an overview of the QuickStart Tennis format and is about learning to help young children develop the skills necessary to play tennis and have fun. All parents, adult family members, and teenagers are encouraged to attend. USTA National QuickStart Tennis Specialist Michelle Skelley is the scheduled Trainer for the event. There is a registration fee of $5.00 with scholarships available. Please register for this Workshop by May 15.

The second event scheduled is the RRTEA QuickStart Tennis Camp. All children ages 5-10 are welcome to attend. The 8-week program will run on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM starting June 8 and ending July 30. Emily McAdoo, a PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) certified teaching professional will be the head instructor. There is a $15.00 registration fee for the Camp, and scholarships are available.

Anyone interested in either the Recreational QuickStart Tennis Workshop or the QuickStart Tennis Camp should send their contact information along with the registration fee or a request for scholarship to:
