USTA Eastern took part in the 39th Annual Association of New York State Youth Bureaus (ANYSYB) Conference held at the Holiday Inn, Liverpool (outside of Syracuse). The theme for this year’s Conference was: ‘Embrace the Challenge: Reconnect, Rethink, and Recommit to New York’s Youth.’

USTA Eastern recently became a member of ANYSYB, and the Association is a three-year USTA Organizational Member. Both organizations are committed to working together to incorporate tennis into new and existing programs offered by Youth Bureaus and other agencies across New York State.

The Conference took place on October 5-6. The USTA Eastern booth was up and running on both days with information available on programs, membership, grants, and training. Northern Region Tennis Service Representative (TSR) Jenny Irwin, Western Region TSR Maria Lirio, and Northern/Western Region Community Outreach Specialist Joe Steger networked with many of the 300 attendees at this year’s Conference.

On Tuesday, October 6, USTA Eastern’s Managing Director of Community Outreach & Advocacy Linda Mann came to the Conference to deliver a presentation entitled ‘USTA Grant Writing 101.’ Linda spoke about the different funding opportunities available at the Regional, Sectional, and National levels, and she provided advice on what makes for a great grant application. She also cited the City of Batavia Youth Bureau and the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, both of whom received 2009 Recreational Tennis Grants, and White Plains Youth Bureau, the recipient of a USTA Serves Grant, during her presentation.ANYSYB Conference

USTA Eastern looks forward to continuing our relationship with Youth Bureaus throughout the Western Region and expanding it to include additional agencies interested in delivering tennis programs to the youth in their community.
