cursoThe U.S. Queens Cup team came in second at the 2009 Super-Senior World Team Tennis Championships, losing in the final by one match to a tough team from Australia. Lee Burling and her doubles partner Mary Boswell (Damascus, Maryland) upset the number one seeds in their match becoming the 75 and over Women's Individual Doubles Champions.

Burling has represented the United States on the international stage in five different sports: badminton, squash, field hockey, lacrosse, and tennis. This year marked her tenth selection to an international cup team.
The USTA National Men’s Clay Court Championships were recently held at Pinehurst, NC. Sam Corso and his partner Tom Bronkow (Bethesda, Maryland) were seeded number two in the Men’s 70 and over Doubles and won the tournament defeating four teams en route to the finals. There were 47 singles players and 32 doubles teams in the Men’s 70 Division.

Corso and Brunkow won all of their matches in straight sets, including a quarterfinal victory over the #6 seeded team, 6-1, 6-3. The semifinal match was the most exciting of the tournament with Corso and Brunkow coming back from a 5-3 deficit in the first set to win 7-5, 6-1 over the #5 seeded team of Robert Duesler (Newport Beach, CA) and George Gill (Red Bank, NJ).

Congratulations to Burling and Corso on their great achievements.burling
