Tennis On Campus Regional Tournament in Syracuse

February 25, 2010 03:03 PM

Western Region held its Annual Tennis on Campus Regional Tournament on Saturday, February 13--a week before the Sectional Tournament. This is a popular event in Western, whose teams form a large majority of the Sectional entries. Two facilities were used, Golds Gym DeWitt and Drumlins Tennis Club. Two teams from Syracuse University, Cornell University, and Onondaga Community College entered the tournament. Staff TPS Maria Lirio and Western RP Steve Pekich acted as site directors. One team from each of the schools played in a round robin pool at each site. First, second and third place teams emerged from each site and all convened back to Drumlins. After pizza and soda; first, second and third place finishers from each site played off in a finals. The overall champion was Cornell A, who beat OCC A decisively 24-8. Syracuse A turned back Cornell B to take third place, and Syracuse B took 5th over OCC B. The grand prize is a $250 grant to the winning university club for expenses to the Sectional tournament the following weekend, and maybe even Nationals.

Final results:

1. Cornell A
2. Onondaga Community College A
3. Syracuse A
4. Cornell B
5. Syracuse B
6. Onondaga Community College B
