steveOn Friday, March 12, Gold’s Gym of DeWitt hosted a full day clinic for all instructors, coaches and interested parties. The Workshop was sponsored by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and it was an official USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop (RCW).

USPTA member and USTA National Trainer/Clinician Ajay Pant conducted the Workshop. Ajay is the Head Tennis Professional at Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester, and he is the Director of Tennis for Tennis Corporation of America (TCA).

Steve Pekich, Western Regional Representative for USPTA and USTA Eastern’s Western Regional President, coordinated the Workshop.

More than 20 people attended--primarily high school coaches about to begin their season. The Workshop was held from 9:00 to 4:00 and included lunch for all participants. Educational materials, including DVD’s and the RCW Participant Manual, were provided. Participants came from all over the Western Region and beyond, with one person coming from as far away as Cincinnati, Ohio.

Several more RCW’s and Recreational QuickStart Tennis (QST) Workshops are scheduled during the next couple of months in the Western Region and throughout the Section. A complete list can be found at: www.eastern.usta.com.
