Upcoming Workshops

There will be four USTA-sponsored Recreational QuickStart Tennis (QST) Workshops offered locally this June.  These workshops are an excellent primer for new coaches as well as a valuable refresher course for those with teaching experience who seek more current methods and effective tools for teaching tennis. 

An RCW is an interactive, on-court training program designed for tennis teachers and coaches working with players of all ages and ability levels.  These sessions cover: 

All Workshops will be conducted by USTA National Trainer and are as follows:

Saturday, June 5 from 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Wanakah Country Club in Hamburg.  This Workshop is being hosted by the Town of Hamburg Recreation Department.  The cost is $5 and anyone interested in signing up should contact Tim Jerome at 716 646-5145 or tjerome@townofhamburgny.com by May 17.  USTA National Trainer and USTA Eastern Clinician of the Year, Michelle Skelley, will conduct the Workshop.

The Lancaster Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department is hosting on Saturday, June 12 from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Lancaster High School.  The cost is $10, and lunch will be provided.  Please contact Host Site Director George Besch at 716 683-8652 or bgeorge18@yahoo.com by May 24 to sign up.  Michelle Skelley will conduct this Workshop.

On Monday, June 28 from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the City of Batavia Youth Bureau hosts the workshop at Batavia High School.  This workshop will be conducted by Michelle Skelley.  The cost is $15 and anyone interested in signing up should contact Toni Funke at 585 345-6421 or funke@batavianewyork.com

The YMCA Love-15 Tennis Program is hosting on Tuesday, June 29 from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester.  The cost is $25, and lunch will be provided.  Please contact Host Site Director Sam Chhoeun at 585 415-5235 or samc@rochesterymca.org to sign up.  Ajay Pant will be the Trainer for this Workshop. 

All of these Workshops are interactive, and materials/handouts will be provided to all attendees at both sites.

A Recreational QST Workshop is for coaches, parents, and instructors who spend most of their time working with children ages 10 and under.  Included in these Workshops will be:  coverage of the QuickStart Tennis play format including age appropriate play situations and games for 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds, & 9-10 year olds, the Recreational QuickStart Tennis Practice Plans, and organizing/coaching a junior team match. 

All attendees will receive a participant manual, the Learn to Rally and Play book, QST practice plans and a Certificate of Attendance.  Please note that RCW participants are eligible for a PTR Recreational Coach membership and/or a USPTA Recreational Coach membership…these are educational memberships however, not teaching certifications.
