After School Tennis Program is a Hit

In just a few months, tennis has become one of the most popular activities at Catholic Academy of West Buffalo.  It all started in 2011 when Sam LaDuca, a local tennis professional and a member of the Catholic Academy of West Buffalo Board, submitted an application for financial support from the Junior Tennis Foundation (JTF).  The application was well received, and JTF provided the school with a grant that was used to purchase 10 and Under Tennis equipment.

Sam and his wife, Celine LaDuca, conducted an assembly in the fall to promote an after school tennis program that was to begin in October. The response from the students to the assembly was so overwhelming that the after school program filled up in minutes once signups began.  A waiting list was created, and those students were automatically enrolled in the second session of the after school program that will begin in March.  In addition, tennis became a part of the Physical Education curriculum at Catholic Academy.

"We expect this program to continue to grow in popularity, and [it] is a wonderful addition to our extracurricular activities," said Ellen Sullivan-Garcia, Director of Development at Catholic Academy.
