2011 LG&T Tennis Challenger

The 2011 Levene Gouldin & Thompson (LG&T) Tennis Challenger concluded on Sunday, August 14 in Binghamton.

Juan Sebastion Cabal and Robert Farah defeated Treat Conrad Huey and Frederik Nielsen 6-4, 6-3 to claim the doubles title. Cabal and Farah were the top seeded team. They have won four Challenger doubles titles this year and advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon. Huey won the Doubles title at last year’s LG&T Tennis Challenger with Dominic Inglot.

Paul Capdeville became the first three-time singles champion of the Challenger, defeating Wayne Odesnik 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the final. The match began at Recreation Park, but after two rain delays and threatening skies, the match was moved indoors to Binghamton Tennis Center.

As always, the LG&T Tennis Challenger featured several community outreach events as part of this week-long celebration of tennis.

USTA Eastern conducted a Member Appreciation Day on Monday, August 8. Other events included a Pro-Am, High School Clinic, Kids’ Day, and Fast Serve Contest.

Recreation Park was also the site of the Western Region Listen and Learn Tour event on Tuesday, August 9. Volunteers and representatives from USTA Organizational Members participated in the event that included a presentation by USTA Eastern Executive Director D.A. Abrams.

Congratulations to Tournament Director Laurie Bowen and her team of dedicated volunteers on another successful week. The LG&T Tennis Challenger has further solidified its position as one of the top events on the USTA Professional Circuit.
