F. Michael Weaver Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament Held at the Twin Tier Racquet Club

GETA Sponsors Holiday Junior Tournament
 
Greater Elmira Tennis Association (GETA) sponsored the 2nd Annual F. Michael Weaver Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament. The event was held at the Twin Tier Racquet Club on December 29-30. More than 25 local juniors competed in seven events during the two days. With a round robin format used to determine the finalists, each participant was able to get in quite a bit of tennis in a short period of time.
 
In the 18 and Under Boys’ Singles finals, Cody Carlson defeated Brian Donahue, 7-5, 6-2.
 
The 18 and Under Boys’ Doubles title went to the team of Donahue and Tyler Condame. After losing the first set to Mike Graham and Carlson, they came back to win the second set and deciding third set super tie-break by the score of 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.
 
The 16 and under Boys’ Singles championship went to William Miller, who defeated Condame in a very close match 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
 
The 16 and Under Boys’ Doubles title went to Miller and Theo Keeley-LeClair. They defeated the team of Alex Goforth and Riku Iwanaga 7-5, 5-7, 10-7.
 
The 14 and Under Boys’ Singles winner was Kyle Johnson. He defeated Goforth 7-5, 7-5.
 
Julia Weaver won the 18 and Under Girls’ Singles title by defeating Jillie Rathbun, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Julia then teamed with Susan Freitas to win the Girls’ 18 and Under Doubles by the score of 6-1, 6-1 over Rathbun and Connie Hou.
 
This was the second year for the F. Michael Weaver Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament. The Greater Elmira Tennis Association wishes to thank all those involved with this event. A special thanks to GETA Board Members Steve McGary and Rich Rollins for coordinating the tournament.
