All 25 players being honored at the Junior Awards Gala on August 29 finished well in section tournaments this year, earning enough points to be recognized by USTA Eastern on Opening Day of the US Open.

But only one managed to achieve perfection: Jamie Loeb. Loeb, 16, of Ossining, won all eight tournaments that she entered, earning a perfect 800 points and a place in USTA Eastern history.

"Jamie’s record is truly incredible," said Julie Bliss, Director of Competition and Player Development for USTA Eastern. "And it is a testament to her talent, hard work, and dedication to the sport."

Loeb, who attends Ossining High School, decided to play in all of the section tournaments to avoid traveling to International Tennis Federation tournaments and missing school. But playing against only Eastern girls presented its own set of challenges and rewards.

"The pressure was always on me since I was the number one seed," Loeb said. "It taught me how to deal with high expectations."

Still, this summer, Loeb and a number of the players being honored at the gala traveled across the country this summer to represent Eastern in team competitions this summer. Among them is Winston Lin, 18, of Williamsville, NY, who will be winning his second Eastern award from Eastern this year. At the section’s Junior Awards Luncheon in January, Lin received the Lt. Frederick M. Scribner, Jr. Boys' 18 Sportsmanship Award.

"We all compete with each other pretty hard on court," said Lin. "But off the court many of us become really good friends."

The gala begins at 10:30 am in the Indoor Training Center at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. All of the junior players will also receive free grounds passes to watch the best players in the world compete on Opening Day.
