10 and Under Tennis Educational Workshop Held at Midtown Athletic Club

Michelle Skelley & Adults

Western Regional TAUT Event

The Western Region hosted a 10 and Under Tennis (TAUT) Educational Workshop on Saturday, May 12 at Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester.  TAUT providers from Buffalo, Fredonia, Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse, and other communities around the Region took part in this event.

Under the direction of Laramie Gavin, Midtown’s Director of Racquet Sports, and with the assistance of Midtown Teaching Professionals Jason Stephens, Rocco Porreca, and Anthony Scarlett, workshop attendees were able to observe Midtown’s TAUT program in action.  All of Midtown’s 9 indoor courts were setup for TAUT (including 4 courts with permanent [blended] TAUT lines), and attendees were able to watch, interact, and ask questions as Midtown staff worked with close to 40 kids from their junior development program and from other programs in the Region.

The evening began with introductions and an overview of TAUT from Gavin, Larry Dillon, USTA Eastern’s TAUT Manager, Michelle Skelley, USTA National Trainer and member of the USTA Eastern TAUT Project Team, Maria Lirio, USTA Eastern’s Jr. Team Tennis Manager, and Joe Steger, Western Region Tennis Service Representative.

After the interactive on court session with Midtown pros, everyone went into the Paddle Tennis Hut to discuss TAUT, ask questions, and learn about available TAUT resources and programs.  Youth that took part were invited to stay for pizza and to watch a movie.

A special thank you to Laramie Gavin and Midtown Athletic Club for helping to make this event a success.  For more information on TAUT, please contact Joe Steger at steger@eastern.usta.com.
