Campus Showdown at William Smith College

Campus Showdown at William Smith College
William Smith College in Geneva, New York hosted a USTA Campus Showdown at Bristol Field House on Saturday, March 9. A Campus Showdown is an NCAA-approved, one-day event, which is open to junior players, college players, adults, and professionals. Each participant is guaranteed three matches.
The event at William Smith College was a huge success, with twice as many entries as in 2012, including some of the top juniors from Western New York.  Tournament Director and William Smith College Head Coach Chip Fishback set up four compass draws of eight that each included a mix of William Smith College players, Wells College players, and juniors.
All four draws were won by juniors -- Zoe Chodak won the “Green” draw, Disha Yellayi won the “Blue” draw, Meghan DioGuardi won the “Black” draw, and Tami Comins won the “Red” draw.
William Smith plans to host a Campus Showdown again next year, and Coach Fishback is looking at adding doubles, as a number of the players in this year’s event expressed an interest in playing singles and doubles next year.
