2014 Marsh CupThe Marsh Cup is an Institution in the Western Region.  It has been taking place since the early 1900’s.  It is a yearly competition that features teams from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Toronto.  This weekend-long celebration of tennis rotates among the cities, so that each plays host to the event once every four years.

Tennis Club of Rochester was the site of the 2014 Marsh Cup on June 7-8.  All of the matches were played outdoors as the weather cooperated throughout the weekend.

Competition began on Saturday with semifinal matches pitting Rochester against Buffalo and Toronto against Syracuse.  The team from Rochester prevailed over Buffalo by a score of 11-6, while Syracuse earned the other spot in Sunday’s Championship match with a 10-7 win over Toronto.

The teams from Rochester and Syracuse went back and forth, and it wasn’t until 4:30PM and under threatening skies when Margarita Kotok and Diana Toia won the Women’s Open Doubles on their 4th match point to get the clinching point for Rochester.  The overall final score was 10-7.  Toronto took 3rd place beating Buffalo 9-8 in the consolation match.

The Western Region is a proud sponsor of the Marsh Cup, and we congratulate the winning team from Rochester.  We would also like to commend Billy Nealon who spent countless hours before and during the event to ensure everything ran smoothly and thank Tennis Club of Rochester for providing a wonderful venue.  The 2015 competition is scheduled to take place June 13-14 in Buffalo.
