Ken White of Elma, NY to Represent US in Turkey Next Month
Ken White of Elma, NY will travel to Antalya, Turkey next month to compete against some of the best tennis players in the world, age 50 and over, as part of the U.S Fred Perry Cup Team.
“I couldn’t believe it when I opened the letter,” White said.  “It is really a great honor to represent the U.S. and Buffalo tennis.”
The Fred Perry Cup, which will be held March 18-23, is an ITF team competition and the senior equivalent of the Davis Cup. White’s selection to the National team is based on a number of criteria, including his record against other US players and his competency on the surface of the competition (clay).
White had a very successful year in 2012. He won five major national titles on the road throughout the year. Victories included singles and doubles national titles in Carmel, Indiana with partner Mark Woldmoe, the prestigious National Grass Courts in Philadelphia with partner Paul Smith and two national titles at the Fiesta Bowl in Scottsdale, Arizona with Smith and local tennis standout, Derek Acker.
White beat Davis in the semi-finals on center court at the Babolat World Tennis Championships in Palm Springs, California last January in a three-hour battle. White will be traveling to Turkey to compete in the World Team competitions in the first week of play and in the Individual World Championships the following week.
For preparation White is on a strict regimen with local personal trainer, Bob Bateson of Body Blocks, working on speed training and recovery time on court. He has also received local support from the Buffalo Niagara Community Tennis Association.
“The backing and encouragement of the local tennis community has been critical to my success,” White said.
