MedailleCollege Partners With Kids Escaping Drugs/ Renaissance House in Buffalo

MedailleCollege Women’s Tennis Team Hosts Community Outreach Event
MedailleCollege in Buffalo, NY has partnered with the Kids Escaping Drugs/ Renaissance House campus for the 2012-2013 academic year. Each Medaille College athletic team hosts clients from the Renaissance House on one of their "field trips" for a sports practice. The Renaissance House clients are between the ages of 13-21 and receive counseling, take classes, and go on field trips while in recovery from drug abuse issues.
There were 13 young women from Renaissance House present on Monday, January 28, 2013 to participate in activities with the Medaille College Women’s Tennis Team. Coach Kathy Connelly and her team set up three nets and simulated a tennis practice in the new Events Arena at Medaille College. Activities included a team meeting, cardio workout and stretching, along with games and rallying.  Near the end of the session, there was a give and take period where the Renaissance House clients spoke about their situations and plans after they graduate from the residential program. The tennis team shared information about college life and what it’s like to be part of a team.
The Medaille Women’s Tennis Team hopes to do this again next year at a time that will be more feasible to allow for an outdoor practice session at a local tennis facility.
