River Rock Tennis and Education Association

RRTEA Junior Tennis Tournament
River Rock Tennis and Education Association (RRTEA) concluded their Junior Team Tennis Camp for teenagers with a tournament on Saturday, July 27 at Riverside Park in Buffalo.
Black Rock resident River Saxbury topped the competition winning first place. River is an assistant coach for the RRTEA 10 and Under Tennis camp and he will be attending Erie Community College in the fall. He competed as a Burgard High School senior this year in the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City and placed eleventh. He is also Doubles Tennis Champion for the Buffalo Public Schools.
In second place was Riverside resident Hanni Htat. Hanni has been involved as a player and Bi-lingual assistant coach in RRTEA since she immigrated to the United States with her family as a Burmese refugee five years ago. She will be attending Mount Saint Mary’s High School on an alumni scholarship in the fall. This summer she volunteered daily at Sisters Hospital Nursing Home.
Maggie Bailey who will be attending Buffalo State College as a freshman in September took third place in the tournament. Maggie is a dedicated monthly volunteer in Black Rock at the Saint Francis Xavier Dining Room located at Assumption Church.
It was a fun day of tennis for all the teens as their July Tennis Camp ended. The camp was coached by former University of Buffalo Division I Tennis Athlete Joey Popielarczyk.
The camp was sponsored by USTA Eastern and the Junior Tennis Foundation (JTF), Buffalo Niagara Community Tennis Association (BNCTA), Enlighten Communication Services, Timothy LaDuca at Realty USA, Roy Manno Insurance, and the Forest District Civic Association. Their support is appreciated as River Rock Tennis and Education Association continues its mission to build community and healthy families one racquet at a time.
