Sam Chhoeun of Love 15-Rochester to Present at National YMCA Conference

USTA Eastern Clinician Sam Chhoeun has been selected to speak at the YMCA National Conference, February 15-18, in San Antonio, Texas.

At the conference, Sam will share his expertise with individuals from all over the country and showcase the YMCA Love-15 program, a USTA National Junior Tennis and Learning Center in Rochester, New York.

The Love-15 Tennis Program celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011 and received the Member Organization of the Year Award at the USTA Eastern Annual Awards Dinner on January 21, 2012.

"We are very fortunate to have Sam as a volunteer in USTA Eastern" said Joe Steger, Tennis Service Representative for the section’s Western Region. "He has helped grow tennis on the local level, and in 15-Love Rochester has created a model for NJTL centers across the region. I know that people at YMCAs across the country will learn a lot from listening to him."

Love-15 is open to all Rochester residents ages 8-16.  Each summer the program is run in parks and provides 300 kids from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to play tennis.  Free racquets and t-shirts are given to students who attend more than 25 days in the summer.  Love-15 also offers an indoor program on Saturday afternoons at Manhattan Square Tennis Club from October-May, and they are now running USTA Jr. Team Tennis (JTT).

Chhoeun is the Youth Sports/Teen Director for the Maplewood YMCA, and has been in charge of the Love-15 program for many years. He has also served on the Western Regional Management Committee. Sam was a participant in the Love-15 program when it began in 1991.  In subsequent years, he became an intern, an instructor, and eventually took over the program in 1998.

Congratulations to Sam and to everyone involved in making the YMCA Love-15 Tennis Program such a tremendous success.
