Summer 2014--Western Region Sponsors Three USTA Pro Circuit Events

Western Region Pro Circuit Events

The Western Region is proud to sponsor three USTA Pro Circuit events this summer.  Volunteers are needed to help ensure the success of each tournament.  Please consider helping out at one or more of these events, and please take advantage of the opportunity to see some great tennis right here in the Western Region.

The Sargent & Collins, LLP Men’s $10,000 Futures Tournament, a USTA Pro Circuit event, will take place at Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville from June 13-22.  Admission is free throughout the Championships.

The Sargent & Collins, LLP $3,500 Wild Card Tournament will be held June 6-8 at Miller Tennis Center. A main draw wild card into the Futures Tournament will be awarded to the winner and qualifier wildcards to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers.  In the doubles event, a main draw wild card will go to the first place team.  Entry deadline in May 30th.

Visit www.millertenniscenter.com for details on these events.  Please contact Miller Tennis Center at 716 632-8600 or millertenniscenter@verizon.net if you are interested in helping with the Pro Circuit event, to register for the Wild Card Tournament, and with any questions you have regarding the Sargent & Collins, LLP Men’s $10,000 Futures Tournament.

The Linda Bogdan Memorial Futures Tournament will take place at Tennis Club of Rochester (TCR) beginning June 21-23 with a Qualifying Tournament that will determine the final eight singles players in the field (Main Draw).  Main Draw matches in singles and doubles begin June 24 and conclude on Sunday, June 29 with the Singles Final scheduled for 12:00.  The Wild Card Shootout Tournament is June 19.  The winner of the Wild Card Shootout gets a spot in the Main Draw and the finalist gets a spot in the Qualifying Tournament.

TCR will host a Kids’ Day as part of Semifinal Saturday on June 28.   A tennis carnival will take place from 3:00-5:00PM and include a 10 and Under Tennis clinic, on court activities, games, and refreshments.  Youth ages 17 and under are invited to participate.  The singles semifinal matches will begin at 5:00PM.

Volunteers are needed to assist in several areas throughout the tournament including transportation of players, sweeping of the clay courts, hospitality, and guest services.  Ball kids (ages 11 and up) are also needed.  In addition, TCR is looking for anyone interested in providing housing for one or more of the players in the main draw.  For information on housing a player(s), and/or volunteering, please contact Jody Sokal at jody@tcr1886.com.  For more information on the Linda Bogdan Memorial Futures Tournament, please visit www.tcr1886.com

The Levene Gouldin & Thompson (LG&T) Tennis Challenger will take place July 12-20 at Recreation Park in Binghamton.  USTA Member Appreciation Day is Monday, July 14. There will be a 10 and Under Tennis Clinic (10:00-12:00) and Demonstration on July 17 and a Wheelchair Tennis Demonstration on July 18.  (Both demonstrations will take place prior to the featured match around 5:00.) There are several other special events scheduled throughout the tournament.  Visit www.binghamtonchallenger.com for more information.

Volunteers are needed for various tasks associated with the LG&T Tennis Challenger, including ticket sales, food service, and VIP events.  Drivers are needed to transport the players from Recreation Park to their accommodations and back.  Assistance is also needed with setup in advance of the tournament and to help clean up after the tournament is over.  Those who volunteer for multiple shifts will receive a tournament pass.  Please contact Rebecca Stollman, Volunteer Coordinator, at 607 765-2584 or rlstollman@gmail.com.
