USTA Eastern Hosted a 10 and Under Tennis Workshop and a Family Tennis Festival

Festival Participants

USTA Eastern hosted a 10 and Under Tennis Workshop and a Family Tennis Festival on Saturday, June 1 at Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, NY. The events served as a kickoff to the summer tennis season in Western New York.

USTA Eastern is working closely with eight communities in the Buffalo area in an effort to grow tennis participation among youth throughout the region.  The programs will offer group instruction and team play this summer using 10 and Under Tennis, the USTA initiative which employs shorter racquets, smaller courts, and lower-bouncing balls to teach tennis to kids. The programs will take place at local parks and be conducted by the Police Athletic League (PAL) of Buffalo and the Recreation Departments in the Towns of Aurora, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Hamburg, Lancaster, Orchard Park and Pendleton.
In addition to those agencies, several others took advantage of the opportunity to send their staff members to the 10 and Under Tennis Workshop. In all, 54 people attended the Workshop that was facilitated by USTA National Trainers Larry Dillon and Michelle Skelley.
After lunch, staff members from the eight communities assisted Skelley with the Tennis Festival, which featured fun games, friendly competition, and prizes. While the Festival was taking place on the court, Dillon, USTA Eastern’s 10 and Under Tennis Manager, conducted an interactive presentation for parents and providers in the lounge at Miller Tennis Center.
USTA Eastern would like to thank all of the people who participated in the 10 and Under Tennis Workshop and the Family Tennis Festival and helped to make the day a success. We would also like to thank Miller Tennis Center for their hospitality. We are looking forward to an exciting summer tennis season in these communities and throughout the Section.
