Western Regional Meeting and Instructors Clinic

The 17th Annual Western Regional Meeting and Instructors Clinic was held in perfect weather on Saturday, August 27 at Tennis Club of Rochester.

This is a USPTA instructors clinic, sponsored by the Western Region of USTA Eastern, and it is open to the entire tennis community. USPTA alternates each year…bringing in an outside presenter to conduct the clinic one year and three local USPTA presenters the next year. In 2011, the presenters were Billy Nealon from Tennis Club of Rochester, and Greg Yahia and Laramie Gavin, both from Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester.

The program was facilitated by USPTA Western Representative and USTA Eastern’s Western Regional President Steve Pekich and organized by USPTA Representative Sue Bloch.

The presentations included Billy Nealon on "Reducing Errors--KEY to Better Performance," Laramie Gavin on "Useful Drills for the Instructor," and Greg Yahia on "Services and Skills."

All were informative and well-received by an audience that was a mix of coaches and professionals that came from some distance.

On court presentations ran from 9am to noon. That was followed by lunch provided by the Tennis Club of Rochester. After lunch, Steve Pekich convened a meeting of the Western Regional Management Committee. Among those in attendance were Vice President Barry Prince, Secretary/Treasurer Reeta Hayes, Adult Competition Committee Representative Jordy Asher, Junior Competition Committee Representative Laramie Gavin, District 14 Delegate Marion Deleo, District 15 Delegate John LeMar, and Western Region Tennis Service Representative Joe Steger.
